Fabrics Tejidos

1-kankaatmix-1

I mainly use recycled fabric that I buy locally. I wash the fabrics first and then I make them into unique items that are comfortable to wear. I want pieces that are stylish, soft and easy to wear. I want to respect the nature and not waste perfectly good materials.

Sometimes I get my hands on some Marimekko fabrics. Marimekko is THE classic Finnish brand that is known worldwide. Marimekko’s aesthetics speak especially to Scandinavian and Japanese people. I used to live 5km from Marimekko factory in Helsinki. If you’re ever in Helsinki, you should visit their factory outlet store. You will see loads of Japanese people there with you.

I think you buy recycled or you buy something that lasts decades. Marimekko’s designs have been around since 1949, so you know the classic prints can be worn from decade to decade.

For the fun of it I sometimes display a Marimekko fabric that I have used for making clothes or accessories. I admire all these artists and designers and I wish I had the possibility to visit Marimekko’s archives to see all the thousands of designs they have produced over the decades.
